It Was

The palette is held to black, cream, grey and raw indigo. Without colour to lean on, the work is carried by line — a scalloped hem cutting across white leather, a jacket front that swings off-centre under six oversized buttons, sleeves that fall well past the hand.

Closures are deliberately unresolved. Panels wrap and tie instead of fastening. Cords hang loose down the front of a corseted bodice. Running stitch in dark thread crosses cream cotton like a drawn line, and contrast topstitching traces the seams of the denim rather than hiding them.

Volume does the rest: culottes cut full enough to read as a skirt, denim turned back at the cuff to show its reverse, a wool capelet sitting square across the shoulders.
